Bakers are set to cash in next month as the country celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The official celebrations, taking place from 2-5 June will see a flotilla of boats travel up the Thames, a BBC concert at Buckingham Palace and a carriage procession for the Queen. To coincide with this, bakery firms have launched a range of Jubilee-themed products and are planning their own special events.

A spokesperson for the Fede-ration of Small Businesses said: "People will be off work and, as with the Royal Wedding last year, we are expecting street parties and family gatherings, which will mean a big lift in sales of cakes and ingredients for sandwiches."

South Wales-based Clam’s Handmade Cakes has launched new cakes under the Jubilee Range brand, which includes jam doughnut muffins, Angel Cake and Cherry Loaf. Owner Jane Phillips said, "It’s a range of nostalgic cakes for the Royal Jubilee, giving memories of past times."

Skye Stevenson, who runs Leeds-based the Whimsical Cake Company is asking street party organisers to submit cake designs via Facebook. She will then make one of the cakes for free and deliver it to their event.

Bakestone also plans to provide its scones to street parties across Liverpool. It supplied over 5,000 cakes to Royal Wedding street parties last year, while school-children in Yorkshire submitted cake designs to Bettys’ confectioners to help create a Diamond Jubilee cake, which has been delivered to Buckingham Palace.

Waitrose is working with Heston Blumenthal and Royal chef Mark Flanagan to provide a picnic for 10,000 members of the public, selected via public ballot, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace before watching the Jubilee concert. And Fiona Cairns has created two cakes for the event: Lemon & Caraway Madeira Cake and Chocolate Indulgence Cake.
