Sainsbury’s, the supermarket retailer, yesterday unveiled a 1.4% increase in its first-quarter like-for-like sales (LFLs), which it said had been boosted by Jubilee trade.

The company said it had continued to outpeform its rivals and also unveiled a 3.6% growth in total sales.

At the two-year mark, Sainbury’s said its LFLs were running at 3.3%.

Chief executive Justin King said: “We have delivered good sales growth in the quarter, in line with our expectations, helping our customers to manage both their weekly budgets, and to celebrate special occasions.”

The company added that key areas for growth were convenience retailing and its own-label ranges.

Sainbury’s said that, as part of its Live Well for Less campaign, its own-label rebrand was 75% complete. Plus, it reported its convenience stores had experienced 16% year-on-year growth.
