Lola’s Cupcakes has opened a cart at Kings Cross St Pancras London Underground station, with a further four planned for this year.

Launched in partnership with Transport for London (TfL), the cupcake cart is located in the northern ticket hall of the station.

In a statement, the business, founded in 2007, said the opening “represents an exciting step in the company’s evolution”.

Asher Budwig, managing director, said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce the partnership with TfL for the opening of Lola’s Kings Cross. The station perfectly meets our requirements in terms of high footfall and an iconic central London location.

“We look forward to providing passers-by with our delicious, handmade cupcakes on a daily basis, and invite them to stop by, say hello, and enjoy a treat from our huge range of inventive Lola’s flavours, baked fresh every day.”

Budwig added that he planned to “strategically expand” the company’s reach with a further four carts opening within different TfL Underground locations over the next six months.

The news follows a report by Network Rail in December last year, which said that retail sales at Britain’s railway stations continued to outperform the high street.

Station retail sales results from July to September 2013 showed a 4.74% growth in like-for-like sales compared to the same period the previous year.

High street sales, reported by the British Retail Consortium, grew by 1.5% over the same period.

Lola’s Cupcakes has a flagship store in Mayfair and Brent Cross shopping centre, with central London cupcake counters in Selfridges, Topshop, Harrods, Spitalfields and High Street Kensington.

Individual “tiny” cupcakes are priced at £1.35 each, with boxes of products available for £16.20 for 12 tiny cupcakes, or £32.40 for 24 tiny cupcakes.

Individual “regular” cupcakes are £2.60 each, and boxes are available at £15.60 for a regular half dozen or £31.20 for a regular dozen.
