The FreeFrom Eating Out Awards are open for entry across seven categories including cafés and coffee shops.

The awards are being launched to coincide with the build-up to the new Food Information Regulations coming into force in December this year. All food-selling businesses will be required to provide information in some form about all 14 major allergens in the food they serve.

The awards will celebrate gluten, dairy and egg-free dishes as well as good allergen awareness. The seven categories for entry are:

  • Restaurants and hotel restaurants
  • Pubs and pub restaurants
  • Cafés, coffee shops and ‘take-aways’
  • Guest houses and B&Bs
  • Schools
  • Not-for-profit services: hospitals, prison services and the military
  • Food manufactured for foodservice.

Antony Worrall Thompson, patron of the awards, said: “The success of retail free-from products illustrates how important free-from options are. The FreeFrom Eating Out Awards are an exciting opportunity for this section of consumers. They will set a bar and encourage the pursuit of excellence across the industry.”

The deadline for entries is 31 August and a shortlist will be published in mid-September with the presentations taking place on 19 November at the FoodMatters Live Event at ExCeL, east London.
