Artisan biscuit bakery The Sawley Kitchen has been shortlisted for two Yorkshire awards.

As a past winner of ‘Best Food Producer 2013’ in the Flavours of Herriot Country 2013 Awards, the bakery is hoping to add ‘Taste of Yorkshire’ and ‘Food Producer of the Year’ to its belt.

Robin Jaques, co-founder of the bakery with his wife Nicky, said: “It has certainly been an eventful couple of years. The Sawley Kitchen was born after we were both made redundant in 2012 and we couldn’t have hoped for it to have gone any better! As a small team of seven, the award shortlists are great recognition for all of our team’s hard-work and dedication.

“We pride ourselves in showcasing quality local ingredients wherever possible, which we then weigh, mix, peel, roll, bake, pack and label by hand. Every batch is tested for flavour, even bake, good crumb and texture – the whole process is very much a labour of love, which we’re confident shines through in all of our produce.

“One of the aspects I enjoy most about the job is getting out and about, meeting our customers and hearing their feedback. We’re frequently told that our white chocolate and lemon and rhubarb and custard shortbread are firm favourites! We sell our produce at Yorkshire farmers’ markets, as well as travelling the width and breadth of the country selling at shows, festivals and events,” added Jaques.

The family-run business supplies wholesale products to retailers, caterers and events.
