The Cornish Pasty has been dubbed one of the top 80 world foods by a team of foodie experts.

The filled pastry appeared in manufacturer Kenwood’s Around the World in 80 Plates list, compiled by experts such as television presenter and restaurateur Matt Tebbutt, Masterchef 2012 winner Shelina Permalloo and spice guru Anjum Anand.

Beef Wellington and sticky toffee pudding also made an appearance in the ranking.

Tebbutt said: “All of us on the panel have our own culinary backgrounds and areas of expertise, so between us we have been able to draw on our experiences to come up with the definitive list. From the classic Cornish pasty, which takes a well-deserved place on the list, to dishes such as chakalaka from South Africa and kelewele from Ghana, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone to try for the first time.”

A spokesperson from the Cornish Pasty Association said: “Few traditional foods have stood the test of time as well as the Cornish pasty, which is enjoyed by more people today than ever before.”
