Pieminister rejected from Glasto for first time in over a decade

A ‘pie-panic’ has spread across social media, as Glastonbury-goers discovered veteran attendee Pieminister will not be at the festival this year.

It is the first time in 11 years that the pie brand will not be there, while rival pie firm Square Pie makes a return to the festival in its usual pitches.

The pie company told customers on Twitter: “We weren't accepted in this year unfortunately – we’re as gutted as you are.”

Pieminister’s spokesman told British Baker the firm was not given a reason as to why it was not accepted to the festival this year.

She said: “Obviously this came as a bit of a surprise, as we have been there every year since 2004, and we know the selection committee makes a point of championing companies that use local ingredients.

“We are the only pie company, as far as we know, to use free-range British chicken and pork.

“We were even featured in one of the paper’s A-Z of Glastonbury guides, so hopefully they will pick up on that. It’s just one of those things.”

Glastonbury is famed not only for its music and atmosphere, but for its vast selection of food offering. This year it has introduced a new scheme this year called  ‘Food For A Fiver’, with over 300 traders taking part.

British Baker have contacted Glastonbury but nobody was available to comment.

Meanwhile, pie-loving Glastonbury goers have taken to Twitter to express their dismay.
