Tesco and convenience store group Nisa Retail are the latest companies to recall bakery products.

Tesco has recalled its five-pack of free-from Belgian chocolate wafers due to the possible presence of salmonella, affecting all date codes.

Nisa Retail is the latest in a raft of companies to recall products due to incorrect ingredients labelling on packaging.

Packs of its Heritage cupcakes product have been recalled due to the undeclared presence of the allergen soya.

The price-marked packs of four, which retail at £1, did not state soya on the packaging ingredients list due to a “production error”.

The packs affected have a ‘best before’ date of 2 October and a Food Standards Agency (FSA) recall notice warns of the health risk to anyone with an allergy to soya eating these products.

Other recent recalls

Nisa Retail’s recall is the latest in a wave of similar incidents. Last week Northern Ireland bakery Cottage Kitchen, based in Galgorm, Ballymena, recalled its Traybake Selection with dates up to and including 21 September as it contained undeclared walnuts. The product had been distributed to 48 stores in Northern Ireland.

Retailer TJX Europe also fell foul of allergen labelling laws last week, recalling its Choco Creation Fruit Mix due to peanut content that was not listed as an ingredient on packaging. It was on sale at TK Maxx and HomeSense stores in June and July this year. Packs with ‘best before’ dates of 19 November 2015 and 18 January 2016 are affected.
