Grahams Bakery in Northern Ireland has seen weekly like-for-like sales sustain a significant 60% uplift since January this year.

Tim Graham, sales and marketing manager, puts this down to new customers rather than sales via the company’s traditional Northern Ireland heartland.

Since December the group has signed deals with Spinneys, a Dubai-based supermarket chain, as well as Ocado and Budgens.

Turnover

Grahams’ business in the United Arab Emirates accounts for 3-5% of its turnover. It is regularly supplying two Swiss rolls, two of the Minis range and a new range of Coconut Layer cakes.

Graham said: “What we’ve done with the family brand has gained some momentum. There is potential to continue our growth through new product listings, and we’re focusing on the customers we’ve started with in the UAE, UK, Republic of Ireland and our own Northern Ireland market.”

Grahams plan to raise awareness of its family business and will kick off a social media campaign next Wednesday to coincide with the popular BBC show The Great British Bake Off.
