Wrexham baker Village Bakery is planning to launch its sourdough crumpets in Japan.

As reported by Wales Online, the crumpets have already proved popular across a great swathe of the Eurasian plate, including the UK, Hong Kong and India.

Managing director Robin Jones told Wales Online that, although only in production since December, sales have rocketed.

He said they were always confident of success after similar processes had been applied the bakery’s popular Welsh cakes, pikelets and scones.

The crumpets are baked for longer to allow the full flavour of the sourdough to come through and received official acclaim with a one-star gold award at the Great Taste Awards.
