Raiders forced their way into a Greggs in Birchencliffe in Yorkshire at 11.30pm on 25 October, stealing a safe containing £2,000.

A gang of at least three men smashed the glass door at the Greggs store in Halifax Road. Inside they grabbed a safe, containing weekend takings, and made off in a vehicle.

The shop only opened last month, reported local paper The Huddersfield Examiner.

Detective Inspector George Bardell, of Kirklees CID, said enquiries were at an early stage and appealed for witnesses or anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle, possibly being driven erratically, to contact police.

Bardell said there were at least three suspects and possibly a driver. The store has an internal CCTV system, which was damaged by the raiders.

When the shop opened in September it was the seventh Greggs store in Huddersfield.

Anyone with information should contact Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
