Greggs has teamed up with UberEats to trial a home delivery service in Newcastle.

The service launched this week, with delivery available within a mile of participating Greggs shops in the city exclusively through the UberEats app.

A selection of Greggs products will be sold through the service, including breakfast, drinks, bakes, sausage rolls, sandwiches, salads and sweet treats. Delivery will cost £2.50 per order, with no minimum spend.

Launched in Newcastle in June, UberEats is Uber’s stand-alone meal delivery app and offers delivery via bike or motorcycle from more than 50 restaurants across the city.

Using the UberEats app, customers can place an order for Greggs food for immediate delivery, or schedule an order to arrive when they want. Customers can follow the progress of the delivery using the app.

Greggs already delivers to workplaces in selected locations, but has previously ruled out the idea of offering home deliveries itself.

“Online ordering and delivery is something that we are often asked about and we are excited to confirm that we have launched a trial of this new concept to customers in our home city of Newcastle upon Tyne,” said chief executive Roger Whiteside this week.

“When it comes to food-on-the-go, our customers tell us that convenience is key.”

Greggs today (3 October) said improved availability and service was helping to boost sales.
