Costa Coffee is to take on the supermarkets and the likes of Boots with the launch of its first-ever lunchtime meal deal.

Consumers can choose between a Ham & Cheese Toastie or Cheese & Onion Toastie, a snack of crisps, popcorn or piece of fresh fruit, accompanied by any Primo or Medio hot drink for £4.95.

Dubbed the Coffee Plus Menu, the deal is available in participating stores between 11am and 2pm from today (5 April) to Wednesday 2 May.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer a meal deal like no other at Costa Coffee, taking the classic meal deal to the next level with the inclusion of a hot drink. We believe it’s important to reward our loyal customers with great quality and value and we’re looking to further build on this value offering,” said Eric Tavoukdjian, commercial marketing director at Costa Coffee.

Costa isn’t the first coffee giant to introduce a meal deal. In November, Starbucks rolled out a £3.99 lunchtime meal deal in the capital, however it did not include a hot drink. Instead, customers could choose between still or sparkling water to accompany a sandwich, wrap or hot panini and a bag of Kettle Chips or a banana.

Both of these options are more expensive than deals offered by the supermarkets, which hover around the £3 mark, while Marks & Spencer announced a £3.50 version early in 2017.
