Bread delivery triggers bomb scare at restaurant
Published:  13 June, 2018

Police descended on a London restaurant after a mix-up over a bread delivery sparked a bomb scare.

Six police officers were called to Wanstead restaurant Bombetta this week after a member of the public spotted a brown paper package with the word ‘bomb’ written on it.

“Gina opened this morning, took in the bread as normal, then was descended on by six police officers in a van with flashing lights,” the Italian grill restaurant tweeted this morning.

But it turned out the paper package contained a delivery of artisan bread - and that ‘bomb’ was an abbreviation of the restaurant’s name.

“I’ve asked the bread supplier to no longer shorten our name,” Bombetta said in a Tweet. “Don’t worry #wanstead, there’s no bomb and we open at 12:15 as normal.”
