Traybakes Ltd is to hold court at Wimbledon for the third year running after securing a deal to supply more than 55,000 of its single-serve slices.

Owner and MD Justine Carruthers told British Baker the Cumbrian-based bakery had already received a second order to supply 15,000 of its six-strong range ahead of the world-class tournament, which starts on Monday (2 July).

“We’ve never had a second order so early on,” she said of the bakery, which supplied the All England Club with just over 40,000 traybakes in 2017 and 39,000 in 2016.

The portability of the single-serve items, which comprise Caramel Shortbread, Cinder Road, Biscuit Tiffin, Butter Flapjack, Granola and Honeycomb Crunch, was one of the reasons they do well at Wimbledon, Carruthers added.

“Our whole approach appeals to the Wimbledon buying team,” she said. “Authenticity and using ingredients from the larder are very important to us.

“We’ve a very dedicated team that consists mainly of women who learned their baking skills at home, and because we are a small team, we are nimble and multi-skilled – that creates flexibility in production. We still bake in small batches by hand because it maintains product integrity, but we have introduced time-saving machinery for cutting and packaging.”

The bakery first began in 1990 and started producing individually wrapped Traybakes bars in 2006, which are sold in many road and rail service stations and coffee houses throughout the UK.
