Ridiculously Rich by Alana unveils commission scheme

The Apprentice winner Alana Spencer has launched a scheme enabling members of the public to sell her cakes for commission.

‘Cakepreneur’ is part of her Ridiculously Rich by Alana cake business, which was launched as Narna’s by Spencer in 2010.

The Cakepreneur initiative is in a similar vein to the ambassador scheme previously launched by the brand, which has so far enabled 50 people across the UK to sell Ridiculously Rich products.

Cakepreneurs sign up to the scheme on the Ridiculously Rich website, and will be charged an upfront cost of £150. They will receive a set of products worth more than that, as well as online training material and a sales kit. Cakepreneurs can sell the products on and earn up to 20% commission.

“The initiative is for anyone who wants to be a part of it, whether they want to sell to one café or 20,” Spencer told British Baker. “We want to provide a business opportunity for everyone, from those who want a little top-up income to those who want to do this full time.”

Cakepreneurs will also be able to contact the help team on hand who will answer any additional questions.

“If something comes up that’s not in the support resources, we’ll help the Cakepreneur, and then we’ll share it with the others. We’re all growing together,” added Spencer.

Ridiculously Rich by Alana has suggested that Cakepreneurs’ potential clients would include cafés, delicatessens, farm shops, hair salons, corporate caterers and friends and family. The products to be sold include the brand’s tray bakes, its subscription service and the newly launched grab-and-go bars, which are available in Spencer’s best-selling flavours of peanut butter fudge and millionaire’s brownie.

While the cakes were previously sold exclusively in trays, the latest launch allows the consumer to access it on a smaller, more convenient scale, which Spencer describes as “the perfect size for an on-the-go treat” and as a product which would “suit independent cafés and delis perfectly”.
