Ingredients manufacturer Macphie has unveiled a range of vegan-certified cake and muffin mixes on World Vegan Day (1 November).

The new cake mixes, available in plain and chocolate flavours, have been vegan-certified after they went through an “intense audit process”.

“Sometimes, food trends come and go within months, but other times they create a fundamental change in how we live,” said Anna Massie, senior category marketing manager at Macphie.

“Macphie believes that a diet free from animal derivatives is part of a long-term change in society and, with over half of the UK population adopting vegan-buying behaviours, it’s vital to understand their needs. So we made the decision to pursue full certification for our vegan product range.”

Macphie said that despite ingredients derived from animal products usually being intrinsic to the stability and characteristics of the finished product, its new vegan mixes are robust and require only the addition of vegetable oil, glycerine and water.

“As the vital ingredients supplier, we wanted to consider everyone and produce a range for vegans that respected their choices without compromising on quality,” Massie added.
