Consumers have rapped Costa for failing to mention meat on the front of packaging for its festive toastie.
The front of pack describes the product as ‘Ultimate Christmas Toastie with sweet cranberry sauce on cheese topped bread’ – and does not mention that the product contains turkey and bacon.
The meat content is listed on fridge labels, and all ingredients are listed on the back of the packaging, although this is discarded of by Costa Coffee staff in order for them to heat the toastie up.
Some consumers say they ate the product assuming it was meat-free, and have taken to Twitter to vent their anger:

Pebbles @tracey471 “@CostaCoffee yesterday I stopped at my local Costa to have a light bite to eat and choose the ultimate Christmas cheese toastie. I was nearly sick as someone who doesn’t eat pork found after the first bite it had bacon and turkey in, totally ruined my experience. Not happy.”
Costa said it apologised for any confusion caused, adding that the back of pack and fridge label states the toastie contains turkey and pork.
“All our pre-packaged food contains nutritional information, including allergens, and our fridge labels reference products that are suitable for vegetarians,” it stated.
“All product information is available online and in store and we would always encourage customers that are unsure to have a discussion with a member of the store team, who will have been advised on how to help customers make informed choices.”
