Greggs is to roll out its vegan sausage roll across all its stores after sales exceeded expectations.

The food-to-go chain said it had an overwhelming response to the launch of its vegan sausage roll from both its customers and the media. In its trading update this week, the business stated the product was its fastest-selling NPD in the past six years.

“Vegan sausage rolls have sold out well ahead of our expectations in those shops selected for launch,” a spokesperson said. “We are currently doing all we can to increase supply to these shops as a priority.

“When we have satisfied demand in these shops we will roll out vegan sausage rolls to the remainder of our shops where we know customers have been asking for it. We are doing this as quickly as possible.”

The roll was originally launched at 950 of Greggs’ 1,900 stores nationwide last week (3 January) and is priced from £1.

Yesterday Greggs also announced that strong sales of mince pies and its Festive Bake had helped boost profit expectations.
