National Doughnut Week raises £20,000 for charity
Bakers sold doughnuts to help raise money for The Children's Trust

Bakers, coffee shops and doughnut specialists have raised more than £20,000 for charity as part of National Doughnut Week 2019.

The fundraising campaign, which is sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, took place from 11-18 May 2019 and saw money raised from doughnut sales donated to The Children’s Trust – the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury.

The week has been running for 28 years and was established in 1991 by Christopher Freeman of Dunn’s Bakery in Crouch End.

One-hundred-and-forty bakers, coffee shops and businesses took part in the fun this year, including The Cavan Bakery, Truffles Bakery, Greenhalgh’s, Warings Bakery, Raven’s Bakery, Planet Doughnut, Breadalbane Bakery, Bayne’s Family Bakers and JG Ross.

“We’ve had another great week of fundraising and have seen some amazing doughnuts – everything from Eurovision-themed to Lambrini doughnuts, to a range of Roald Dahl specials. The week is an amazing opportunity for bakers to showcase their creativity and raise lots of dough,” said Helen Sinclair, market intelligence manager, CSM Bakery Solutions.

Hannah Vince, from The Children’s Trust, added: “We would like to thank everyone involved for another hugely successful National Doughnut Week. The money raised from this fantastic event will help us to continue to support children and families across the UK affected by brain injury.”

Birds Bakery has participated in the event for many years and, this year, raised over £10,000.

The East Midlands bakery chain brought back its salted caramel doughnut by popular demand, as well as its new doughnut bites.

“We’re thrilled to announce that, yet again, we have raised over £10,000 for National Doughnut Week. It’s one of our favourite events of the year – our customers and staff love getting involved and this year’s doughnuts went down a treat,” said Mike Holling, sales and marketing director, Birds Bakery.
