Birds to open new store in Nottingham city centre

Birds Bakery is set to open a food-to-go focused store in the centre of Nottingham.

The site, which is next to a Greggs on the city’s Listergate, will be open seven days a week. In addition to Birds’ hot and cold food-to-go lines, it will sell Birds’ traditional bakery range including loaves and confectionery.

“The market is changing, but we have a very loyal following who still want bread and confectionery,” said Birds sales and marketing director Mike Holling.

The business is currently fitting out the site, which is due to open in the next four to six weeks.

In addition to the Nottingham location, Birds has acquired a site at the Westpoint shopping centre in Chilwell, and expects to open another store before the end of the year.

Birds has also become part of Derby’s walk of fame – a trail of mosaic and cast iron plaques celebrating the lives of people who have had a major impact on the city. The plaque outside Birds’ store in Irongate is in recognition of brothers Frank, Thomas and Reginald, who founded the business in 1919 after returning from the war.

Other people to feature in the walk of fame include actor Sir John Hurt, suffragist Alice Wheeldon, and football management duo Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.
