London Food Corporation enters free-from market

London Food Corporation has entered the free-from market with the acquisition of gluten-free cereal and food manufacturer Big Oz.

The new ownership will make the UK-based gluten-free cereal pioneer “rightly poised to withstand challenges and take advantage of opportunities that Brexit may present”, said Lalit Premchandani, a director of the co-owned venture.

Established in 1999, Big Oz processes and packs puffed grains, crispy and soft flakes, oats, granola and flours that are free from the 14 major allergens at its Sunbury-based plant.

Clive Ball, Big Oz national sales manager, will head up the business development, along with the technical and commercial team managers. 

He said: “We are now fully focused on increasing market penetration, bringing a wider variety to our consumers in the UK, and also pursuing opportunities coming from export markets that trust UK-based manufacturers."

Premchandani claimed London Food had entered a fast-growing segment of British food manufacturing – Mintel research valued the UK free-from food market at £837m.

Speaking of the deal, he added: “We see the free-from food category as a symbol of wholesome nutrition, great taste and convenience for our consumers. We are committed to working closely with our partners to tailor our business model, such that we become the most preferred supplier in this category.”
