Iced biscuit manufacturer Biscuiteers has unveiled a new ‘Willy Wonka’ style facility in London creating at least 50 new jobs.
Dubbed the ‘Ministry of Biscuits’, the purpose-built 20,000 sq ft building in Wimbledon, London will be capable of icing two million biscuits a year, which will be dispatched to more than 100 countries worldwide.
The site unites five production and office spaces from around the Camberwell and Kennington areas of London, bringing the team under one roof.
Its Grand Icing Hall houses 100 icers and bakers, and at least 50 roles have been created for the September to December season along with permanent roles in head office and production, said the company, which had a turnover of £6 million in 2018.
“The move to Wimbledon is a landmark moment for the business,” Harriet Hastings, founder of Biscuiteers said.
“Stevie and I started the company almost 12 years ago with no staff and a small space in Kennington. Almost 20 million hand-iced biscuits later and here we are, ready to make a change which will be pivotal. The new space will allow our teams to work more collaboratively and productively which in turn will give us more space to scale the business faster.”
Earlier this year, Biscuiteers released a limited-edition tin of biscuits ahead of the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child.
