The hunt is on for the 2020 World Scotch Pie Champion as Scottish Bakers has announced the dates for the 21st annual competition.

The event offers Scottish butchers and bakers the chance to showcase their baked goods across a range of categories, including Scotch pies, sausage rolls, bridies, speciality savouries and Scottish football pies, as well as something sweet in the form of apple pies.

“We are delighted to be launching the 21st World Scotch Pie Championships. We have a huge number of hard-working butchers and bakers who deserve recognition for delivering great products day in and day out,” said Alasdair Smith, chief executive of Scottish Bakers, which manages the competition.

“The World Scotch Pie Champion title is highly sought after and, this year, I am looking forward to sampling for myself some of the best products on the market today and to seeing who the judges pick out as having produced something that I know will be world-class.”

Entries can be made online until 31 October 2019 and the products should be delivered to Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline for judging on 20 November. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 14 January.

Last year’s competition attracted more than 450 entries from over 80 butchers and bakers. Dumfries-based The Little Bakery took home the top prize in 2019.
