Suffolk-based Two Magpies Bakery has opened its new site in Norfolk.

The 70-cover café opened this month and serves fresh sourdough bread, Viennoiserie, cakes and a lunch menu. There are 18 staff and all breads and pastry are prepared and cooked on site.

“We are very excited to be opening our fourth bakery, particularly as this is the first time we will move away from the coast and into the city,” said Steve Magnall, who co-owns Two Magpies with his wife Rebecca Bishop.

The opening follows Two Magpies purchasing the assets of Timber Hill Bakery and moving into its former site.

It has devised a new menu to cater to Timber Hill’s customer base and grow its vegan and gluten-free options, which the former bakery was known for, said Rebecca Magnall.

“Two Magpies is building a very strong reputation in Suffolk, so we hope to do the same in Norfolk and become a destination in the city for great baked goods and fantastic lunches.”

The new bakery is open from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. It has taken on six of the existing Timber Hill Bakery team and moved a baker and pastry chef from its current team over to the Norwich site.

“This is a very exciting new project for us. It will be great to be in the city and to attract a whole new range of customers, from tourists to office workers and customers wanting a great lunch on-the-go,” added Yasmin Wyatt, general manager at Two Magpies, who joined the business six months ago and is overseeing the management of all four bakeries in the group.
