National Doughnut Week raises more than £25,000

National Doughnut Week organisers have announced that £25,327.40 was raised from doughnut sales during the event in May.

The week, sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, raises funds for The Children’s Trust, the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. The week has been running for 27 years, after being launched in 1991 by Christopher Freeman, owner of Dunn’s Bakery.

“National Doughnut Week has once again been a huge success,” said CSM Bakery Solutions trade marketing manager Lisa Boswell. “The Royal Wedding fell into the week this year, so it was great to see bakers using the event as inspiration for their doughnut themes. The creativity shown really was fantastic and it was all in aid of a brilliant cause.”

Bakers, coffee shops and other businesses took part in the fun this year, including Kandy Bar Bakery, Murray’s Bakers, Staniforths Bakery, Carrs Pasties and Greenhalgh’s.

Warings Bakery raised over £1,400 during the week through sales of doughnuts with a Royal Wedding theme, including the Elderflower Royal Wedding Cake, the Wedding Ring, the Ginger Toff and Confetti and Crème (pictured above).

“We would like to thank Christopher Freeman, Lewis Freeman and CSM Bakery Solutions for continuing to support The Children’s Trust through National Doughnut Week,” said Chloe Edwards, senior community fundraising manager at The Children’s Trust.

“We would also like to thank the bakeries, coffee shops and individuals who got involved for helping to make the week the success it is. The money raised from their creativity and hard work will help us to continue to support children and families affected by brain injury and neurodisability across the UK.”
